Reading this 'vox pop' taken from the recent @HRTechConf in Chicago, I entirely agree with the self-styled recruitment Digital Strategist and Technologist (and all-round nice guy!), Matt Alder, when he says recruitment and marketing are two entirely different entities.
There's a lot of natter at the moment about recruitment being a marketing function these days but I think that's rhubarb. Recruiters need to develop their personal brands, sure. And the agencies they work for need to be on the tips of their respective audience's tongues, of course.
But recruitment has and always will be about the people connection. We are in danger of assuming brilliant recruitment can be achieved through emails and tweets. It can't. Part of the mix, sure. But recruitment is not marketing.
I think the first thing to say is that recruitment and marketing are not the same thing. They are entirely different practices.
